Pretty Things: AL Stampa
My best friend Alex runs her own custom design studio in Brooklyn called AL Stampa, where she specializes in illustration, letterpress and branding. In late September, she picked up with her husband Rollie and cat Lou and moved the entire operation to Amsterdam, because she's just incredibly cool like that.
You know how you have some friends who are so insanely talented and good at what they do that you just wish every single person in the world knew about them? Alex is one of those people.
She's a creator, a thinker, a tastemaker in the truest sense of the word. In a time when most things I purchase feel so impersonal and mass produced at rapid speeds and under questionable ethics, Alex is standing by a letterpress machine with hands drenched in ink as a reminder that there is no replacement for goods that are handmade. Here's one of the prettiest invitation suites ever that she designed and made for a wedding in Italy:
She helped my husband and me create our wedding invitations. We've purchased our holiday cards from her, and she is the artist responsible for the design of this site, including the Little Spoon Big City logo that makes me squeal with excitement every time I see it. Here's a shot from her Instagram page as she was sketching out ideas:
If you're in the market for anything pretty and personal -- whether that's custom invitations, announcements, illustrations, branding help, logo design work or basically anything that you have an idea about how it should look but can't figure out how to get from A to B, I have the person for you. For daily doses of inspiration, follow her on Instagram here.
